Link to Japanese newspaper Link Japanese whalers have illegally killed whales in the Antarctic, claiming that it is "scientific research".Japanese whalers already kill over 23,000 dolphins and porpoises per year according to the movie "The Cove" . Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project tries to stop the the herding and killing of these dolphins and porpoises. Sea Shepherd, Animal Welfare Institute, and Greenpeace try to prevent commercial whaling. Also, orcas in Puget Sound are starving because of declines in the the number of salmon for them to eat. These declines are probably due to greenhouse warming and overfishing. Also, Norway, Iceland, and Denmark's Faroe Islands continue to whale.
