You can visit petroglyphs all over the world, you can also create art yourself! Get outside or create, paint, draw, sing! 🎨 ART IS HUMAN! We also want to remind folks to not only respect these places as individuals while visiting but also protect the land they exist in! Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument are home to incredible petroglyphs and human history, wildlife, and vital ecosystems! 🏜️ We must work together to protect public land!
HOW TO RESPECTFULLY VISIT PETROGLYPHS AND PICTOGRAPHS:
🏜️ Look but don't touch! Skin oils, sunscreens, and bug sprays from our hands can damage rock surfaces! We want to preserve rock art for as long as possible so keep hands off!
🏜️ Leave your art to your notebook, do not add to heritage sites petroglyphs! No vandalizing, no chalk, no carving, no drawing on rock faces.
🏜️ Stay within designated trails and paths, don't disrupt artifacts of human history! Be mindful of where you are stepping!
🏜️ Be respectful; these heritage sites are sacred spaces and culturally significant! Be appropriate and curious and create a space where everyone can enjoy and appreciate the wonders of petroglyphs!
🏜️ Leave what you find, artifacts are to be admired from a distance not to be damaged or taken!
National Monuments including Bear's Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante are treasure chests of wildlife, beauty, history, and native american culture. Recently, Trump illegally directed that mining and oil and gas industry should be allowed in them. Bears Ears has over 100,000 Native American cultural sites, sacred sites, cliff dwellings, and much rock art. It also has desert bighorn, mountain lions, and bears. Grand Staircase has fossils of over 21 previously undiscovered dinosaurs and thousands of canyons and cliffs. Tribes hold ceremonies at many sites. Presidents are allowed to create national monuments, but not to revoke them. It is illegal. In July 2026, Trump issued an order so that mining and oil and gas could start in these national monuments. On September 2, environmental groups reopened their lawsuits to stop President Trump. The lizard is from a site near the Green River in Dinosaur National Monument ( ancient Fremont culture 300 CE to 1300 CE). The concentric circles with wings are from Comb Ridge in Bear's Ears ( ancestral Pueblo and or Anasazi peoples between 700 and 900 years ago).
