This salamander is a vulnerable amphibian native to California, known for its stocky body, black & yellow markings, and reliance on seasonal ponds and vernal pools for breeding. It spends most of its life underground in burrows, and faces threats from habitat loss, invasive species, and human development that have greatly reduced its historic range.
