Requirements – Art for Printing - JMET

Computer Art
Programs: PC preferred

Adobe– Photoshop, PC to version 5.5; .psd, .tif, .jpg - (psd - render all type layers)
**300 dpi/at least ½ the final print size (full size is always best)**
- Illustrator, PC version 10 or less; .ai, .eps – convert all fonts (create outlines)
- Acrobat, .pdf – create .pdf file using press quality or high quality print settings

Corel - Draw – PC to version 9 - .cdr – convert all fonts to curves

Quark – PC to version 5.0 – Send all material – images, fonts (true type fonts only)
– it is more efficient to create an acrobat .pdf file from quark documents.

Microsoft Word – PC – fonts must be sent (or identified) - Font search - $50.00
- Best to create an acrobat .pdf file from word documents.

Spot Color Printing

Art – Separations from jpg, pdf, tif, psd, corel paint, quark, word - $25.00. If colors are not spot colors (use Pantone uncoated) in Illustrator or Corel Draw Files the $25.00 charge will apply.

Spot-Process (Index Color) Separation

Must be created from layered photoshop (.psd) file - $25 per hour charge to create necessary layers from non .psd file).
This process can not be applied to all images and/or graphic files.

Original Art

Flat Bed scan size is limited to 8/12” x 14” original size – some exceptions can be made with simpler, and more open designs (art is section scanned and “spliced” back together in computer). Ask for details.
Largest size for drum scan from pliable original is 17” x 17”.
Art on non-pliable material or larger than 17” x 17” will be professionally photographed to slide and the slide will be drum scanned.
Alternatives to the above include scanning your own work and taking a digital photograph. If scanning please scan to 300 dpi at 100% of size. Full color art should be scanned to CMYK color or (if disk space is limited) scanned RGB and later converted to CMYK.*
Working from a RGB scanned file present less of a problem than computer generated art created using RGB colors, but you should be aware that final 4 color process print separations will be created from CMYK color. Artwork should be printed out and a color model sent with the computer file. The color model will represent our color separation & printing target. We can work from computer file only but the final output will represent our best estimate as to color.
Digital Cameras tend to add blue or magenta to photographed artwork. Further, camera angle at which artwork is photographed will greatly affect the digital image. For these reasons we will not attempt to print without a “post photography” print out to be used as our color/layout target.
