| Bush’s EPA tries to let polluting corporations avoid cleaning up their toxics - On NPR last week, I heard that the EPA is trying to revoke the responsibility of toxic chemical companies to keep records of their toxics and to ensure that they are being cleaned up. Under the new regulations, “cradle to grave records” won’t be required, anything that is designated as eventually to be “recycled” will not need any records. Thus, a co. like Hooker Chemical of Love Canal, or Monsanto, or du Pont or GE need only give their toxics to some fly by night co. that stores them or dumps them and claims that they will be recycled. Then the little company goes out of business or disappears, and the public is left with polluted air, water, etc, while the companies get rid of their toxics on the cheap. JM 8-9-04 |
